In the SPL Capitol Hill Library’s Meeting Room
425 Harvard Ave. E., Seattle, WA 98102
From about
12pm to 1pm, we will be hosting the
learn to play portion of the event, which will be limited to 13x13 boards and smaller.
From about
1pm to 3pm, we will be
discussing Yusanari Kawabata's The Master of Go. The book is a semi-fictionalized account of the 1938 retirement match of Honinbo Shusai, which became the transition of the Honinbo house name from “hereditary” to a tournament title. The SPL has
digital copies to borrow, and other digital copies can easily be found online.
After the discussion, or around 3pm, we will be replaying the Meijin’s retirement match game on a traditional Japanese style floor board with slate & shell stones similar to those that would have been used for the game.
There should be some snacks and beverages as well.
